I’m a fantasy author from the Central Coast with a passion for chickens — both hens and roosters. I’ve never been a 4-H or FFA member, nor do I raise chickens as a food source (unless you count eating their eggs). I don’t breed show chickens and I don’t run a rescue (although someday I’d like to). I just absolutely love chickens the way other people love dogs and cats. I currently have 18 boys and they are my babies – because I don’t have the heart to find other homes for them or to abandon them at a shelter .

If AB 928 were to pass, I would have to make the heartbreaking decision over which 3 of my babies get to live and which 14 get to die. It is ironic that a bill supposed to support rooster welfare punishes those of us who make roosters’ wellbeing a priority.
