FORmer Humane Officer

Serena R.

As a former sworn Humane Officer in Fresno County, I can confidently say that I know there is a problem with illegal cockfighting in our state. There is a considerable difference between an unlawful fighting operation and a responsible breeder or youth participant in a poultry club. If AB-928 intends to stop cockfighting, then I support more vigorous enforcement and felony-level penalties for those involved. Target the individuals who breed, train, fight, and profit from cruelty, not families who raise poultry responsibly for farming, education, cultural connection, and exhibition.

My son and I participate in various programs that educate students on farming, self-sustainability, and exhibitions. This bill would not only eliminate families from poultry shows and exhibitions, but it would also wipe out years, sometimes decades, of careful poultry work. Respectfully, eliminate AB-928 to protect our traditions, youth programs, and agricultural heritage, while addressing concerns about illegal activity.
